Hunters Make a Winning Start to #VodafonePBL Season 3

The #HyderabadHunters started off the #VodafonePBL Season 3 with an emphatic win over the Northeastern Warriors in Guwahati. The tie began with the Men’s Doubles encounter wherein Markis Kido & Yoo Yeo Seong came through in 3 games to give the Hunters an early lead.

Ajay Jayram of the Northeastern Warriors made an impressive start in the first of the Men’s Singles match-up against Lee Hyun Il but a spirited comeback by Lee thwarted any further threats and ensured the Hunters were firmly in the drivers seat, 2-0 up in the tie, Marin to play next and both trump matches yet to happen.

As Hunters skipper Carolina Marin stepped up for her singles match-up against Michelle Li, the Hunters dugout was full-throated in cheering its players and often drowned out the Guwahati crowed with their raucous encouragement. Marin took control of the tie right from the start and took the tie in straight games.

With the tie effectively won and an unassailable lead, Sai Praneeth stepped up for the second of the Men’s Singles. Sai unleashed a string of impressive shots but the Warriors won their trump match to get themselves on the board.

Sensational Satwik & the sublime Pia Zebadiah were slated to play the last match of the tie and they made short work of their opponents to take the match and the tie. A 5-2 score line clearly suggested an impressive start to the campaign. With the first match in the bag and confidence really high, the Hunters have now made their way to Delhi where they play two back-to-back ties before heading off to Chennai via Hyderabad.
